Selena
She was a performer, designer and singer and broke down barriers in the field of music. She was at once contemporary and traditional a Mexican-American singer who brought together the two worlds in a singular way--and provided excellent Tejano music to a mainstream public. It was an emerging star and her tragic passing broke the promise. As is the norm when a brilliant, genial and young performer dies too soon, many mourned the potential that she had but to realize. Fans are enthused over through the years to dig their heels even harder working in order to ensure her achievements are not forgotten. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence within the Latino community that can be seen as similar to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The singer was extremely popular in Latino communities across North America her music crossed cultural boundaries to touch the lives of children and old alike. Selena is a gorgeous, extravagant performer who has been compared to the Latina Madonna. However, she's also an active role model for families in drug as well as AIDS awareness efforts.
