Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name of Winona Laura Hoowitz. She was born within Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her in honor of her hometown. Michel Horowitz' father was editor and author and editor, as was Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder is a self-described Jewish and descends from Ryder's Jewish father. Ryder has two half-siblings younger than her, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents relocated her and her siblings to Mendocino County California when Ryder turned seven. There wasn't electricity. Ryder was a consummate reader and spent her time studying books since there was no TV. Ryder began taking acting lessons in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 aged 12 years old. In 1986 she landed her first big-screen role in the film Lucas when she was just 15 years old. Ryder suffered bullying in her high school. Ryder hoped that her actions would bring about a change. Unfortunately that didn't come to be. However, she was determined to pursue her goals. Ryder made her breakthrough with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in the year 1988. Ryder continued to play successful roles in several movies. In 1993 she won an Academy Prize to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
